WELCOME
St. Katharine Drexel Parish warmly welcomes visitors
and new members at all times. If you are
not worshiping with another parish community or you are new to the area please
see Father McLoone after any mass to register. Perhaps you are not Catholic and are
interested in learning more out about the Catholic Church, all you have to do
is ask. Don’t put off what your heart is
telling you to do. Jesus left the Church
behind to continue his work here on earth and we are all his disciples.
DAY OF PRAYER - THURSDAY
Thursday is our Parish Day of Prayer. Please
keep your fellow parishioners in your prayers especially our sick and homebound
and those in nursing homes and hospitals.
Exposition of
the Blessed Sacrament takes place after
the 8:00AM Mass. Private visits are
encouraged throughout the day. Our Eucharistic Day will conclude at 7:00PM with
the Novena to Saint Katharine Drexel and Benediction.
To ensure that
the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone, we ask that you sign-up for a
specific time each week for Thursday Exposition.
A sign-up
sheet is located in the front vestibule of the church. Please sign up and spend some time with the
Lord at St. Katharine Drexel.
WIDENER STUDENTS ARE WELCOME!

Christ.

BREAD & WINE MEMORIAL
In the early
Church the people brought the bread and wine to be used for Mass. If you wish to participate in this ancient
tradition of providing the bread and wine for our liturgies in memory of a
loved one, you may make arrangements by coming to the Rectory.
The memorial
will be published weekly in the bulletin.
An offering of $20.00 is requested.
STEWARDSHIP
Christian stewards are generous out of love as well as
duty. They dare not fail in charity and
what it entails, and the New Testament is filled with warnings to those who
might be tempted to substitute some counterfeit for authentic love. The fundamental pattern in every case is
simple and changeless; “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
“FOR THE LOVE OF GOD”
Michael Bucella’s new CD, “For
The Love Of God” is now available in the Rectory. The single - “For The Love Of God” won Song
of the Year in 2007, awarded by the Catholic Music Association. Cost is $15.00 and for an additional $5.00
you receive Michael’s first CD - recorded with Lillian Waite.

WHAT DO I DO - IF I WANT TO BECOME
A MEMBER OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
We are in the process of forming a new group of
interested adults who would like to know more about becoming a member of the
Catholic Church. These sessions are for
adults who have never been baptized, those who were baptized in another
Christian church who would like to become catholic or for those who have been
baptized Catholic but never celebrated any other sacraments. The first sessions are called “Inquiry”
because it is really an opportunity to come and ask questions. If you are interested please call Sr. Kathy Benham, IHM, 610-872-3731.
MORNING
SCRIPTURE CIRCLE
We will resume
our Wednesday morning Scripture Circle on September 17, 2008 at 10:30AM. Please note the time change. All are welcome! We meet in the Office of Catechetical
Formation which is located in the basement of the convent. For more information please call Sr. Kathy Benham, IHM 610-872-3731.
CHRISTIAN
COALITION AGAINST
VIOLENCE
IN CHESTER
Would
you like to join other Christians in the City of Chester to walk for
peace? Every Friday evening at 7PM a
group of volunteers from several Churches in Chester gather to pray and walk
for peace. They have just celebrated 3
years of praying together on Friday evenings for an end to violence in
Chester. If you would like to join other
members of the Catholic Church walking and praying for peace please call Sr.
Patricia Ann 610-497-9788. Sr. Pat walks
every Friday night. She would be so
grateful to have more members of the Catholic community join her in this great
witness to peace.
HELP NEEDED
A family is in need of a part-time care worker who
would be able to watch an elderly woman on a part-time basis - hours 6:45AM to
4:30PM. For information call the rectory
or see Father Joe.
WELCOME
We welcomed
last weekend at all of our Masses, Deacon Adam Crowe. Deacon Adam is studying at Saint Charles
Seminary to be a Priest for the Diocese of Ogdensburg, New York. He will be with us most weekends during the
school year. We are blessed to have him
and hope he enjoys his time with us. Our
Seminary recognizes that our parish family is a great place for a young man to
be placed in such a multi-cultural and alive parish.
We also welcome this week, Patrick Zierke
in his first year of Theology studies who will be with us on Thursdays for his
Field Education assignment. Patrick is
from the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska and will work in our school and other
areas of our parish life each Thursday.
Welcome Deacon Adam and Patrick!!!!

A GOOD TEST
A test of worship is how sensitive it makes me to the
needs of those around me. -Anonymous
GOD'S WATCHERS
In the ancient world watchmen were extremely important
people. They kept communities safe, and were there to alert them to any
impending danger or attack. Before locks, alarms, and security systems,
watchmen were the protectors, the safety measure. So when the Lord charges
Ezekiel as a watchman today, it is a weighty charge. So weighty, we learn, that
if Ezekiel fails to sound the alarm for those around him and they perish in a
state of wickedness, Ezekiel will be held responsible! This profound connection
between God's will on earth and in heaven is repeated in today's Gospel, where
Jesus instructs us that we are to be the security force, the watchers placed on
alert that nowhere in the Body of Christ, the church, will there be any two
members of the one Body who are not reconciled. Scripture tells us that Jesus
reconciled all things in heaven and on earth through the blood of his cross.
But we are given the mission to continue that reconciliation on earth as in
heaven through our ceaseless efforts to be, as Paul would write, ambassadors of
reconciliation. Let us not get too comfortable thinking that we are responsible
only for keeping our own lives from the path of wickedness and disagreement. We
are also held accountable for the lives of the members of Christ's body around
us.
